POLICE CHIEF MICHAEL BRADLEY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM UPTON AFTER 30 YEARS WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Upton, MA: Upton Police Chief and Public Safety Director Michael Bradley announced his retirement after 30 years with the Upton Police Department. His last day of employment will be August 16th.
Michael began his career in 1994, joining the Town of Upton as a dispatcher and rose through the ranks. Michael became Police Chief in 2008 and became Public Safety Director in 2021. Noteworthy accomplishments include: The State’s Accreditation of the department in 2011 and its re-accreditations through 2024, creation of the Regional Dispatch Center for the Towns of Upton and Hopedale, his service as President of the Massachusetts Chief of Police Association in 2022, and the work he has done overseeing the Police and Fire Departments serving as the Town’s Public Safety Director.
Speaking of his retirement, Chief Bradley said, “I am saddened to say that I am retiring after 30 years of service, 16 years as Chief. I’ve been offered and have accepted the Executive Director’s position for the Massachusetts Chief of Police Association.” The Chief added that his decision to leave was not easy, but he looks forward to his new role and “my job [will be] to make sure that Police Chiefs are successful across the State.”
The Board expressed sadness for the Town and remarked that the Chief’s Association will be lucky to have you. Chair Laura Hebb said that his selection for the position “is a testament to your character, integrity, and all your years of service to Upton, we truly appreciate all you’ve done for the Town.”
In preparing for the Chief’s retirement, the Board authorized the Town Manager to prepare solicitations for the selection of a consultant to assist in the selection of the Town’s next Police Chief.
